What can you do?

No knitting content right now. Here are some things I’ve done, and some resources you can check out if you want to do something but don’t know what.

  • Changed my view on Instagram: Literally. I spent some time this morning digging through Instagram, finding new accounts to follow. Yesterday my feed was filled with black squares, and while I appreciate the intent, I want to see the posts from those BIPOC, and I wasn’t following enough to offset the black squares. Want some ideas? Check out who I follow, then see who they follow. Follow, like, share, repeat. My Insta right now is sharing those voices, not mine.
  • Donated to Dye Hard Yarns’ Go Fund Me to help her get a Community Dye Studio up and running. Remember my Bonny Lass yarn? This is her.
  • Preordered a “Raise Some Heck” t-shirt (plus an awesome pin) from Tyler Thrasher. Proceeds will help support bailing out protestors and providing science experiment kits for black families to do at home in Tulsa. ETA: this preorder is no longer available.

Want more? Check out some really cool beaded and leather jewelry from Antoinette’s Originals on Etsy, made by Antoinette Houston, who also writes and self-publishes science fiction. You can see more about her on her website.

Here are a few other ideas:

This is just a start. My money isn’t bottomless but I can keep listening, keep sharing, keep reading, keep learning, keep loving. Wishing you love and peace, friends.

  1. I rushed over to buy a “raise heck” tee. Then I saw the other tees. I saw the I Don’t Kneel, I Stand for the National Anthem, White. Straight. Republican. Male tee too. No thanks. I’ll spend my money elsewhere. I appreciate the eye opener though.

    Be well.

    • Hi Bobbie Jean. I’m sorry, but I don’t see anything like that on Tyler Thrasher’s website, which is what I linked to. The Raise Some Heck shirt was a preorder that is no longer available anyway. Can you confirm what site you were on? Given that Tyler is a black man, I’d be surprised if he was selling anything like that.

      • Hey Bonnie,
I have photos. I clicked the link and was taken to a sight that sold tees. As I was leaving I received a sign that said: Wait! American patriots wants your support. Continue shopping.

Girl, I live in Texas. Candace Owens is Black too but that doesn’t keep her from scaring me.

It’s been suggested that I was somehow redirected. The shirt says “Raise some hell.” Not “Raise some heck.” I guess that should have been a clue. If you care to see the shirts I can send photos or post them on my blog. I hope I’m not in the twilight zone.

      • I wasn’t trying to suggest that you were lying or making things up, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t supporting something I don’t agree with. I have no idea what happened, but I can’t find anything like that on his website, and when I check my link, it takes me to the “unavailable” page but not another site. I’m really sorry my link got you there somehow; it’s completely antithetical to my beliefs and not anything I would knowingly share. I do still believe Tyler himself is worthy of support though, and not affiliated with anything remotely like “American patriots”.

      • Bonnie, were laughing about it. We’re not upset. I think you are the same person whose posts I’ve enjoyed for so long I forget when I became a fan. My mister didn’t believe me until he saw it for himself. I took photos to share with our daughter because it was a “it could only happen to me moment.”

        Be well.

        Peace, girl.

      • Good to hear. Thanks for the kind words, and I’m glad you commented rather than just unfollowed. I think I’ll remove the link just in case!
